Dr Dion George was appointed as Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment from 3 July 2024.

Dr George holds a DBL from UNISA, with a focus on economics, bringing academic rigour and analytical precision to his role in Parliament.
He acquired a BA (Hons) from Unisa, MBA (Wits) and an advanced certificate in Municipal Governance. His MBA research report received the Investec Securities Prize for the Best Research in the Field of Investments. He also completed a Certificate Programme in Leadership Coaching and the Harvard Negotiation Course.
